Boo-hoo. The poor Democrats don’t like it when a 50-50 Senate isn’t going their way. Living under the guise that politicians always play ball on partisan politics, the left is coming after Sen. Sinema (D-AZ) with a vigor not seen in ages. While it shouldn’t be surprising, they seem to be under the belief that Sen. Sinema is making them beg for her support.
In all actuality, all she has done is what she was elected to do – make decisions that are best for her constituents. Much like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Sen. Sinema just wants to see things through to ensure things she votes in favor of represent the free will of her people and not just blindly stamp off on something.
At hand is the ‘Build Back Better’ plan being pushed forward by President Biden. This issue is chock full of fluff, poor spending control, and a lack of oversight. The same things people were saying plans by Republicans have been full of. The glowing difference here is how they are attacking her. By pushing her into more uncomfortable situations and going after her in public they are ensuring her steadfast approach to the issue will continue. Nobody is going to cower to demands by intimidation.
Knowing this they have been doubling down on the attacks in the press. Rep. Richie Torres (D-NY) has said “There is a sense in which we no longer live in a democracy; we live under the tyranny of Kyrsten Sinema. I welcome the ideological diversity of the party. I can live with dissent. My colleagues and I have trouble living with what we perceive to be erraticism. The perception of erraticism is brought on by a lack of communication and clarity for where she stands.”
The freshman Rep. Torres has no clue what erraticism truly is. Sen. Sinema has been nothing but steadfast in her approach. Since this is an issue stemming from the White House why debate it in public and with the media? Her desire to speak with the WH directly is a sign of maturity and expertise far beyond what her party has been exhibiting towards her.
Hatred for her stance has also been carried out on the Senate floor. She has stood firm on her stance against Democratic calls to rip away the Senate’s filibuster to pass voting rights legislation. Sen. Sinema also joined other moderates in voting against a minimum wage hike earlier this year. Given how her fellow Democrats have been destroying the economy and as a byproduct of the hopes of Americans everywhere, her refusal to be swayed here is nothing short of commendable.
Last month Sen. Sinema’s spokesperson John LaBombard set everything straight about her agenda. “While we do not negotiate through the press — because Sen. Sinema respects the integrity of those direct negotiations — she continues to engage directly in good-faith discussions with both President Biden and Sen. Schumer to find common ground.” This statement is concrete proof that she wants to find a solution and is committed to doing so despite the consistent harassment.
If anything, the Democratic left is the tyrant here. Senators Sinema and Manchin are the victims. The harassment over sticking to their guns and fighting for what is right should be revered and not condemned. They really have a lot to learn and a lot to change on this plan if they ever want to gain their support. Instead of trying to force their hand, how about they do what they complained Republicans never do; talk to her and hear her out?
