Do Republicans Support Racist Laws?

One of the most divisive, hot-button issues facing America today is racism, real or perceived. As the recent Jussie Smollett debacle highlighted, the Democrats are not afraid to hit their social media accounts or take to the airwaves to denounce President Trump and other conservatives as intolerants based on the unsubstantiated word of a single individual. This type of thing inevitably leads to a whole litany of supposedly racist policies and laws supported by Republicans. The question is, is that based in fact?

Voter ID Laws

One of the most precious rights in the constitutional republic that is the United States of America is the right to have our voices heard at the ballot box. However, like any other right the Constitution grants to us, it must be invoked. Think of our Miranda rights that the Supreme Court said must be enunciated by police when they arrest someone. Nearly everybody in the country has heard them, having been recited thousands upon thousands of times on television and in movies.
In order for the government to know you’ve claimed this right, voter registration was developed. Not only does this tell the government you are choosing to participate, but it also verifies you actually are entitled to exercise this privilege, which is reserved for citizens. One of the main reasons for this system, contrary to the rhetoric we hear, is not to deny blacks or Hispanics the vote, but to ensure the integrity of the process that puts our elected officials into office.

Border Security

One of the most important roles of the Federal Government, both as envisioned by the Founding Fathers and still today, is keeping us secure and as safe as possible. The Left would have us think is that crimes committed by illegal aliens are insignificant, nearly non-existent. However, the per capita rate of violent crimes carried out by a group best served by staying off the radar is significant. But that’s only one concern. It seems the Progressive Liberals are far more interested in trying to inflame opinion against President Trump and the conservative than they are in protecting Americans. It’s clear their opposition is a fairly recent ploy. In evidence, consider the words of then-Senator Barack H. Obama from 2005:
“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country.”
And yet, barely more than two years after the end of his presidency, the idea of protecting our southern border is “immoral” and “racist.”

Final Thoughts

The Democrats seem to be playing a very dangerous game, one where a person or group that cannot bolster their position through reasoned discourse and hard evidence retreats to their last bastion of defense, vitriolic rhetoric and fear-mongering. In fact, in the handful of weeks since Congress convened after the 2018 mid-term elections with the likes of the freshman representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar and the resurgence of Sen. Bernie Sanders we have seen a large increase in these inflammatory tactics. We aren’t likely to see the end of them anytime soon, either.
