Disturbing: Harvard Professor Indicted for Working for China

Dr. Charles Lieber was the Chair of Harvard University’s Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department before it was found that he was working for the Chinese. Lieber has been charged with lying to federal authorities about his involvement in a Chinese program that is designed to gather information in a wide range of technological fields of study.

Lieber lied about his involvement with China’s Thousand Talents Program. He lied because he knowingly was aiding the Chinese in their attempts to gather information about American technology.

The Thousand Talents Program looks like a cover for China’s attempt to gain access to technology that they have no understanding about. In times past some of their so-called scientists have been caught trying to smuggle genetic samples and various technologies out of the United States. Their attempt to understand the science that Americans have developed has been an interest for them for decades.

Lieber has been indicted by a federal grand jury of lying. He lied about his involvement with this program to the point that he is now a major suspect. His arrest charge in early 2020 was a criminal complaint.

The documents show that Lieber has been the Principal Investigator of his own Research Group. The group specializes in nanoscience. Much of his funding has come from sources such as the “National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Department of Defense (DOD).” He has received $15 million in research grants over the years.

As a result of the grants, he was supposed to disclose and report any and all sources of financial support for his research. This is required so that there is no conflict of interest created as a result of the grants. He is also to report on all foreign collaboration efforts. But money became a strong attraction to Lieber as he began to get in bed with the Chinese in research.

He kept secret from Harvard University the fact that he was a Strategic Scientist” at the Wuhan University of Technology. This area is the birthplace of the COVID-19 virus that has killed people all around the world.

He also was a contractual participant in the Thousand Talents Plan for over three years. Lieber failed to report any of this to the school or authorities. He simply wanted to keep it a secret.

China boasts that the Thousand Talents Plan is designed to “attract, recruit, and cultivate high-level scientific talent in furtherance of China’s scientific development, economic prosperity, and national security.” The description itself proves that the purpose of the program is to make China stronger as they steal technology from the United States.

The phrase “national security” is the factor that draws attention to the purpose of the program. The traitor Doctor Lieber is said to have received “a salary of up to $50,000 USD per month, living expenses of up to 1 million Chinese Yuan (approximately $158,000 USD at the time) and awarded him more than $1.5 million to establish a research lab at WUT.” All he had to do was work for them nine months out of the year. He had to publish and produce for the University in Wuhan.

Lieber turned his back on the young minds of America. He fell in love with the money from the east and went to work strengthening their national security. He lied to investigators when he testified a few years back that “he was never asked to participate in the Thousand Talents Program, but that he ‘wasn’t sure’ how China categorized him.” Someone of his stature should have known to check on his classification before signing up with the Chinese.

Lieber is going to find out that sneaky illegal actions will never pay off. He lost his position at Harvard and now he faces up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and $250,000 in fines. He will have to appear before a federal judge to receive his sentencing.

Lieber has shown that it does not pay to lie to the United States. All the so-called scientists from China that were caught taking genetic samples and other technologies throughout the years have no business being in the United States.
