To mask or not to mask, that is the question. Whether it’s a violation of a person’s constitutional right to be forced to cover their face is a subject of much controversy.
Maskers and non-maskers stare at one another in contempt as they firmly stand their grounds. Some claim to not cover one’s face is endangering the lives of others, while others believe it’s a load of bunk and no one is going to tell them what to do.
At the Dusty Rhodes dog park in Ocean Beach, CA, a couple was leisurely enjoying lunch at a picnic table while their three-month-old puppy romped and stomped with the other canines who were there for the same purpose. Seems innocent enough. Right?
Ash O’Brien said she and her husband were approached by a woman who began chastising them for not wearing masks and for bringing food into the park which she informed them was not allowed.
Ms. O’Brien politely told the woman, “If we knew there was a no food policy, we wouldn’t have brought it into the park.” This was not enough to satisfy the woman so some words were exchanged. All the while the O’Brien’s somehow managed to maintain their composure.
The arrogant woman finally gave up and walked away, only to return to the park several minutes later. In the words of Ms. O’Brien, “She just came up without saying anything and just stuck the mace can right in front of my face. My husband, being a good guy, walked in front of her and was like, “hey calm down please don’t do this,” and then she grabbed him and just starting macing him, she used the entire can on him.”
A bystander who captured the entire scene on video was heard saying, “What are you doing? You cannot be serious. You just maced him and their food because you disagree … What’s wrong with you lady?”
As the woman stormed off to her car, the man who captured the scene followed her and took down her license plate number. O’Brien’s husband required treatment at a local hospital and Ms. O’Brien said the pepper spray had also severely burned her arms.
Following their treatments, the couple went straight to the San Diego Police Department and filed a report. The police department accepted the report as a misdemeanor battery charge but at this point, this is all that is known.
Ms. O’Brien will not stop until this woman is brought to justice. “I want her to go to jail, she assaulted my husband, and I’m angry about it.” People don’t need to be getting assaulted for not wearing a mask in a public outdoor area.”
The O’Brien’s acted fully within their rights considering they were in an open outdoor space and were much farther than six feet away from anyone as California law dictates. Then, of course, the fact of how it is difficult to impossible to eat with a mask on factors into the scenario.
And so the battle between the maskers and the non-maskers continues. This incident is only one of many that erupt daily in grocery stores, convenience stores, gyms, parks, and everywhere imaginable.
Even in states where wearing a mask in public is dictated by law, some choose not to abide. But. To take the matter to such an extreme level as the mace spraying woman did, especially when there was no violation, only goes to show how even the most innocent of people can easily fall victim to extremism.
In this particular case, it was liberal extremism. This holds true for the majority of these reported incidents. Anti-maskers generally wish to left alone to go about their business as usual, but it somehow lights a fire of contempt for liberals who take great pleasure in belittling them at every given opportunity.
We can’t help but agree with Ms. O’Brien in this case. Since she and her husband were guilty of nothing, the woman needs to be arrested, and hopefully, made an example of.
With so much controversy these days concerning ‘to wear or not to wear’, how do you feel about this? Is it a constitutional violation to mandate the wearing of a mask, or is it in the best interest of everyone to wear one? How about letting us know?
