Nike and Ex-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick are at it again.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Kaepernick told Nike he felt the Besty Ross flag used during the American Revolution was offensive and had slavery connotations.

Colin Kaepernick was an NFL star who played for the San Francisco 49ers but became better known for protesting the National Anthem over the treatment of minorities in the United States.

Many took to social media this week to criticize Nike’s decision. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey went took to Twitter stated he was “embarrassed for Nike” and announced he would be withdrawing $1 million in tax breaks for Nike’s planned manufacturing center in the state.

Donald Trump Jr. posted on Twitter that Nike should change the design of the shoe by adding a hammer and the colors of the Russian flag which was a hammer-and-sickle logo of the former Soviet Union.

He said,

If the Betsy Ross Flag, the flag of the American Revolution, is too offensive for Nike to commemorate The 4th of July maybe Nike should go with this… seems to be more in line with their views.

Here’s a picture of the shoe in a tweet:

In a statement, Nike said they made the decision to pull the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July because they were concerned it would offend and detract from the holiday.

Should Nike have pulled the shoe just before the 4th of July holiday?
