Texas lawmakers have infuriated their constituents by avoiding their jobs in new and overt ways, but their insolence has rocketed to new heights and it could be the last straw.
While Democrats from Texas became the Democrats from Washington, Texans were left to pick up the pieces and sort out what to do without a House of Representatives that would vote on its bills. The bills in question, including education reform and especially election integrity, were believed to have had enough votes to pass, and Republicans were progressing with hopeful optimism that everyone who promised to vote for the measures, would.
All of that was blown out of the water, however, when Democrats became aware that none of their regular tactics would work, and threw a hail mary pass (also know in Texas as a wholl-eyed-hissy-fit) and deprived Republicans of the ability to vote on a technicality. As it turns out, whoever was thoughtful enough to put together the rules and regulations for the chamber of Texas’ congress was thoughtful to make sure that no one party could go off half-cocked and do business without the other.
So, by fleeing, Democrats put an end to the Texas House of Representative’s ability to do anything. And while some understand what lawmakers are attempting to accomplish, many more seem to feel this is the immature stunt of vindictive manipulators. And that theory is only confirmed by the lawmaker’s decision to meet with some of the nation’s most notorious underhanded dealers: Former President Bill Clinton (D), former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and former Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.
According to NBC News, the trio is meeting with the Texas Democrats who fled the state to block a voting bill virtually, Abrams at 10 a.m. on Thursday and the Clintons at 11 a.m. The question becomes then, what do these Texans need/want from some of the most vicious national and state politicians this nation has ever seen.
“They both have so much wise counsel that they can provide for us. We’re hoping they can use their influence, as well,” state Rep. Ron Reynolds said about the Clintons. “We’re going to ask them if they haven’t already if they would personally call Sen. Sinema and Sen. Manchin.”
The group reportedly asked the Clintons to provide monetary support for their vacation away from Texas to avoid doing their jobs and vote on the education and voting bills.
“They both have so much wise counsel that they can provide for us. We’re hoping they can use their influence, as well,” state Rep. Ron Reynolds said about the Clintons. “We’re going to ask them if they haven’t already if they would personally call Sen. Sinema and Sen. Manchin.”
The Clintons heaped praise on the Blue Texas representatives, like much of the rest of the Democrat party hailing them like modern-day Moses, trying to lead the Red state to the praised land, one broken promise at a time.
Hillary Clinton praised the Democrats in a statement to NBC News saying, “The fight to protect our voting rights is the fight to protect our democracy, so we stand with them and applaud their ongoing efforts to ensure our citizens have access to the ballot box.
Not to be outdone by his not-actually-ever-president wife, the former president also weighed in, saying, “What Texas Democrats are standing up against goes far beyond their own state — it is part of a much wider effort by Republicans nationwide to make it harder to cast a vote and have it counted because they know they can’t win when the electorate matches America in its full diversity.”
He continued, “Hillary and I are inspired by the Texas Democrats and hope they will keep making what our dear friend John Lewis called ‘good trouble.’”
To date, more than 50 members of the Texas House relocated to Washington, D.C., this month, promoting promises of arrests when they appear back in Texas. There is currently no end in sight for Republicans who are running out the clock on all possibilities of legislative action for the Texas House.
