Bill Cassidy Responds to GOP Blowback on Vote to Convict Trump

(UnitedVoice.com) – On February 13, the Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump of the incitement of insurrection charge against him. Democrats needed 67 votes to convict him, but only received 57. Seven Republican senators sided with the Left and now one of those lawmakers is speaking out.

On February 25, Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) defended his actions. He said he’s “at peace” with his vote to convict Trump. He said he can still say that even as he’s “getting criticized” for his decision. That’s the second time he has made similar comments. The day after the trial, he said the former president was “guilty.”

It’s unclear why Cassidy is at “peace” with violating the Constitution. Trump was no longer president, therefore the proceedings were not constitutional. As a lawmaker who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, he should have never sided with the Left. His statements are as absurd as they are insulting.
