Jury Finds Cult Leader Guilty
(UnitedVoice.com) – Keith Raniere is the founder of a lurid “self-help” sex ring called Nxivm. Last week, a jury handed down a ruling on the charges he faced.
During Raniere’s trial in New York federal court, he was accused of running an illicit cult disguised as an empowerment group for women. Many of them were conned into joining Nxivm with promises of success in their lives. But the six-week trial was full of women testifying about being physically branded and forced to have intercourse with Raniere.
The women who were recruited for Raniere’s “inner circle” viewed him as their master. Eventually, the women considered themselves masters as they recruited other women to be their “slaves.” The whole thing ran as a sort of pyramid scheme with Raniere sitting on top.
He was charged with seven counts, including:
- Sex trafficking
- Racketeering conspiracy (extortion, identity theft, and production of child pornography)
- Wire fraud conspiracy
- Forced labor conspiracy
- Attempted sex trafficking
- Sex trafficking conspiracy
A jury found Raniere guilty on all seven counts. He now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, and up to life behind bars.
With as important a story as this is, it seems strange that the mainstream media has all but ignored this verdict.
