Texas Governor Blocks Critical Race Theory
(UnitedVoice.com) – Last week, the Florida Department of Education banned the teaching of critical race theory (CRT) at schools in the state. Texas has now joined the list of states looking to protect students from what many believe are unpatriotic, racist lies about America.
On Tuesday, June 16, Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill that outlines how the educational system in Texas may teach students about race and racism. Unlike other states, the legislation does not specifically mention CRT. However, it does ban schools from teaching children that people today are responsible for the actions of those in the past just because of their race. The text states that schools can’t teach that “an individual should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of the individual’s race or sex.”
That prohibition is undoubtedly a response to the CRT theory that white people are the oppressors because of the slave trade. The theory also teaches that black and brown people are still oppressed.

In addition to outlawing the radical CRT theory, the bill states schools must teach students about the “history of white supremacy,” including about the KKK, slavery, and eugenics. The teachers must let students know why white supremacy is morally wrong.
The bill allows students to receive a well-rounded education without being taught that one group of people is evil based on their skin color. The legislation will take effect on September 1, 2021.
